GERMI undertakes research on solar-wind hybrid technology

The Gujarat Energy Research and Management Institute (GERMI) is developing a solar-wind hybrid technology. As part of this research project, the institute is developing windmills that are 5-125 metres tall. While windmills on small towers will be connected with solar rooftop systems, the taller turbines will be attached to ground-based solar projects. The institute claims that the upcoming technology will not only improve land utilisation, but also reduce the cost of transmission infrastructure for such projects. GERMI has recently launched a mobile application that will enable users to find viable locations for setting up wind power projects across India. It has also created a special map of the potential places for harnessing wind energy that is connected with the application. The institute is planning to conduct a trial run for the project in 2017.
