APTEL directs MPERC to determine tariffs for bagasse-based cogeneration

The Appellate Tribunal for Electricity (APTEL) has directed the Madhya Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (MPERC) to pass the tariff order for bagasse-based cogeneration projects from April 1, 2016. This was in response to a petition filed by the Sugar Mills Association regarding the same. The tribunal noted that the state commission has not passed a new tariff order even after the expiry of the control period of three years, and has not offered an acceptable explanation for the delay. It also observed that as per the order dated April 18, 2016 passed by MPERC, the latter initiated the process for the determination of tariff for the next control period. The tribunal directed the commission to complete the project in line with the present order and determine the tariff within a period of two months from the date of receipt of this order.
