US-based technology company Apple has signed an agreement with Nevada-based utility NV Energy to build 200 MW of solar capacity in Nevada by 2019. The projects under the agreement will support Apple’s renewable energy needs for its Reno data centre. A power purchase agreement (PPA) authorised by the Public Utilities Commission will be signed soon. Apple will allocate up to 5 MW of power for NV Energy’s future subscription solar programme for residential and commercial customers.
