First Solar awarded 140 MW PV module supply contract for Sun Metals solar power project in Australia

First Solar has received a contract to supply modules for the 140 MW (DC) Sun Metals solar farm in North Queensland, Australia. Once constructed, it will be the country’s largest solar project and will utilise more than 1,167,000 modules to produce approximately 270,000 MWh of energy in its first year of operation. The power generated from the project will be utilised by Sun Metals’ zinc refinery. RCR Tomlinson Limited is the EPC contractor for the project. The construction is scheduled to begin in April 2017.
