MAHAGENCO intends to add 2.5 GW of solar power capacity in three years

Maharashtra State Power Generation Company Limited (Mahagenco) is looking at public-private partnerships and joint venture (JV) routes to add 2.5 GW of grid-connected solar energy capacity in three years. The state power utility already has 180 MW of installed grid-connected solar power capacity. The new and renewable energy policy approved by the state government aims to create 14.4 GW of grid-connected capacity in the sector by 2020. This includes 7.5 GW from solar energy, of which Mahagenco will undertake works on 2.5 GW and the remaining capacity will be developed by the Maharashtra Energy Development Agency.
