India receives FDI worth $1.7 billion in renewable energy in over two years

According to the data shared by the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion, India witnessed a total of $1.77 billion foreign direct investment (FDI) equity flow in the non-conventional energy sector between April 2014 and September 2016. Further, as per the department, the majority of the investments have come from Mauritius, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Japan, Germany, Spain, the US and Seychelles. Under the automatic route for renewable power generation and distribution projects, 100 per cent FDI is allowed subject to provisions of the Electricity Act, 2003.
